Nobel Prize?

A couple days ago I had a heart attack and another one a few days later. I have just gotten home from the hospital. My doctor told me not to overwork myself and the heart attacks probably happened because I have been smoking a pipe for most of my adult life and like to eat rich food. I want to get back to work right away but I still am not feeling well. There are rumors I will receive a Nobel Prize. It will be nice if I do win the award. I hope to get back to my studies soon.

The Hale Telescope

I am glad World War II was won by the allies. Although, I don’t think they should have used the atomic bombs. I think these terrible weapons should be banned. I am back in California now with my wife, Grace, after serving in the war. I have been invited to work with the Hale Telescope. It is a brand new telescope that is the largest on Earth. I continue to study and learn more about distant galaxies and perfect my equations. Rebecca in 2009 told me today Nasa just launched the Discovery Space Shuttle into space. I wish I could have been there to see it.

Becoming Popular!

I can’t believe it! Ever since Albert Einstein came to thank me for my discovery that his theory of general relativity is probably correct, everyone is talking about me. They are saying I am a part of California’s elite society. I am a popular superstar now! I have met many Hollywood stars and it’s exciting to be among them. They drive up to see me at the observatory. My wife, Grace, and I will soon travel to Europe. It is something we love to do. We are so fortunate we have the luxuries that other people are unable to have during this depression. I have recently written a new book, called “The Realm of the Nebulae”. It is about my discoveries in astronomy. It has increased my popularity even more.

The Big Bang Theory!

My observations have revolutionized astronomy. Now that we know that there are other galaxies besides our own, it has given us so much more information to research and learn from. If the universe is expanding it must be coming from a central point because something must have caused the expansion. Astronomers and I have been testing and trying to prove a new theory, the Big Bang Theory. The theory states that all the matter of space was launched outward in different directions, which continues to expand further.

Meeting Albert Einstein

I have recently met with Albert Einstein about my discovery of the universe expanding. Albert was very pleased with the information I gathered and wanted to learn more about my discovery. He had said the universe was either expanding or contracting by his new General Theory of Relativity, but astronomers told him it did neither. Albert then changed his equation with an extra factor he called the cosmological term (anti-gravity force that kept the universe from collapsing in on itself) so the astronomers would believe him. His original equation was correct in the first place, poor fellow. Now, his original equation can be used with out the cosmological term. We will stay in contact with one another to further our theories.

The Universe Is Expanding?!

My assistant, Milton Humason, and I have measured the distances from Earth to these nebulae that appear to be going away from Earth. We have discovered that the farther away a galaxy is, the faster it is moving away from Earth. Rebecca has told me that this will later be called Hubble’s Law. With this new found information, I am certain that the universe is rapidly expanding, which proves my original hypothesis. I always say, “Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.”

Red Shift and Classification System

The Hooker Telescope has been working wonderfully. I have discovered that the universe is much larger than the Milky Way because of it. Other astronomers and I are noticing that the nebulae we have been studying are casting a more red light than they should be. We don’t know what is causing this red shift. One theory is that these objects are moving away from us. Logically thinking the Universe must be expanding. I am going to investigate this further. I developed a classification system used for categorizing various galaxies. It sorts them by what they are made of.
